The Family Clay Cast:

Agalia - The big sister. An adorable little girl whose character is motivated by her desire to make people laugh and share with each other. And Disney Princesses. She is a chameleonic actress, adopting the roles of many of the characters she encounters during a day, including Princess Aurora, Princess Presto and others. Often shows excellent restraint when her little brother is borrowing toys or stealing the spotlight that is the firstborn’s birthright (as is understood by firstborns).

DJ - The little brother. A handsome young man with appetites as big as Texas for mozzarella cheese, nighttime snuggling and women. Yes, women. At 10 months his pickup lines tend to the monosyllabic, but his Adonis-like looks can win over virtually any woman (or girl over the age of 8). He is Agalia’s biggest fan and lights up like a halogen bulb whenever she enters the room.

Diane - In this production, the mother has given up her lucrative job to stay home and raise the children. Both brilliant and beautiful, this high school valedictorian, Summa Cum Laude graduate, master’s degree  recipient and holder of at least a dozen patents uses the patience she learned while studying under self-important sandal-wearing department heads when refereeing the children. Her character is also inexplicably able to function on 5 or fewer hours of sleep every night.

Jack - The father. A college career of under achievement coupled with fast-talking and back room negotiations allowed him to steal a Cum Laude designation that accompanied his bachelor’s degree. Earner of a modest income but perpetually enthusiastic about his future financial prospects, he convinced his primary breadwinning spouse to leave her job to raise the children. His character is the narrator of this story.

Ajax - The alpha dog. Adopted from a local Humane Association office, he loves all people and especially children. Is anxiously waiting for the day when he and DJ can can romp through the yard helter-skelter. Doesn’t mind having his ears or tail tugged. Does not like most other dogs and once took down a great dane in full stride at a local dog park. Fearless in his defense of family and turf.

Obie - The sidekick (and happy to be). Adopted from the same Humane Association office, it’s presumed that he was the victim of multiple forms of abuse. Under the tutelage of Ajax, Jack and Diane, he was rehabilitated. His character now enjoys spending afternoons sleeping or eating - sometimes garbage. Or money. Is 100 pounds of pure chicken but can scare the hell out of anyone who doesn’t know him.

Some of the storylines to follow:

• Jack’s willingness to thwart the rules vis-a-vis Diane’s interest in abiding by the rules.
• The reliance of the family on Jack as the primary breadwinner after a decade where Diane really brought home the bacon. Hilarity over having to shop at “big box” grocery stores often ensues.
• The parental guilt associated with having more than one child; dispensing affection from a titration tube to ensure one doesn’t receive favor more than the other, yet somehow feeling that one of the children is being ignored and must therefore have affection heaped on him/her.
