I Don’t Read No Gobbledy Gook, Boyeee

I was over @ Dooce yesterday, and saw that I had the chance to be only the second person to comment on a post. Wha? That NEVER happens. So I replied, but the Captcha system (the same one I use - copycat) told me I typed the secret words in wrong. So I tried again. And again. And again. And then it displayed these two words for me to type:

Uh, yeah. Is that 32@:5:lightningboltc Brigg? I decided that making a comment on her blog wasn’t that important. Or maybe she decided that she’d prefer not to receive comments from someone she hates. Then I wondered how many of you think that I must hate you for doing the same thing. Really. There’s no one. I respect love like everyone that visits this blog. Well, maybe there’s one I don’t like - but I’m pretty sure she’s never even seen this blog.
So I trashed this exercise in embarrassment. It might be good enough for the readers over at Dooce, but not for the fine people that visit this blog. Until I find another system that’ll keep spam out, it’ll be a comment free-for-all.

Okay, looks like the new system is working. Please, please, PLEASE? Let me know if you have any issues with this one by emailing me at jack at familyclay.com

Yeah, the Captcha thing was interesting. However, only once on your blog did I come across one that was indecipherable. I just reloaded it and got a new set of words.
The new one is inconspicuous and not annoying. Let’s hope it works . . .

Well, the connection timed out the first time I tried it. And now, leaving another comment, I notice that what I’m supposed to type is the same thing as last time . . .

. . . no time out that round. But again with the same words. I wonder if they’re unique to me . . .

Yep. Well, anyway, good luck! Have a great week . . .

THANK YOU! I hate captcha and I noticed that on Dooce’s site yesterday too. I had a really witty and funny comment (in my mind) ready to go!
But uh, your new filter thingee causes my self-diagnosed OCD to act up a bit
I’ll still come around though. I like you THAT much. You should feel humbled and honored.

@ Tysdaddy - it’s the same system that Simplynutmeg uses, which is the same word every time for every person. Kinda like leaving a twist-tie to secure the front gate. But spammers are pretty lazy, so I’m hoping that’s enough of a deterrent. I’ll keep an eye on the timeout issue. Please let me know if it persists.
@ Nat - by “filter thingie” do you mean the word thing you have to type in? Is the dash a pain in the ash? (I know - hilarious) Hopefully your browser will auto-fill that field once you’ve typed it in once. Otherwise, I can always pick another word.

AWESOME. I hate that captcha. It makes me feel so very, very stupid. I thought I was the only one, so thank god you posted that screen shot. Nobody could read that. Nobody. (Poor Dooce, she probably won’t get any comments, huh?)
But, um, that thing I have to type up there? It’s really, really reeeeeeeeeeally tiny writing. I think I know what it says, but if there’s any way to make it bigger…. I might feel less stupid.

Hmmm. “kiln-dried” shows up really tiny? Smaller than the rest of the text on the page?
